Misconceptions about Happiness
Just read a very enlightening and true message by Rabbi Noah regarding happiness. The message came across when I was actually struggling to be happy. I wanted to be happy and was acting exactly the other way. I was doing everything that could make me unhappy. I solation, no exercise, no sharing, no TV, nothing to change the way I was feeling.
Everyone wants happiness. But am I really working towards it?
Am I really practicing it? Do I have the tools to remain happy? Am I using the tools even after having them?
There are certain misconceptions about happiness and my pursuits towards happiness;
"Misconception #1: "Once I know the tools for being happy, then it will work like magic."
Do not expect the results to come automatically. It is possible to intellectually understand how to attain happiness, yet not put it into practice.
In fact, many people might actually prefer to be comfortable and unhappy, rather than endure the discomfort of changing their habits.
Just as learning any new skill requires effort, you have to be willing to invest serious effort to achieve real happiness."
Very true.
Many times, I am not ready to make efforts to change my state of mind. In fact I am comfortable with that unhappy feeling.
Sometimes, my own EGO stops me from changing my feeling or negativity. My own ego becomes an obstacle in my happiness.
I have to practice being happy! Nothing comes without practice especially if I am comfortable being unhappy.
Practice makes happy.
Still, this knowledge and realization may not be sufficient to make me happy. I need to put aside my Ego, myself and my comfort. Yes my comfort too needs to be challenged in order to get used to practicing and attaining happiness.
